Marine Biological Resources Distribution and Support Services for Research and Industrialization Achievements
The Marine Bio Bank (MBB) identifies valuable materials from marine biological resources that can be industrialized and provides distribution or information to users in industry, academia, and research institutions who need these materials. It serves as a core infrastructure for the marine bio industry.
Starting with marine extracts in 2018, the MBB operates four resource banks, including marine microorganisms (bacteria, fungi), marine genetic resources, and marine microalgae. Based on the efficacy information of marine extracts, it expanded and built the Cosmetics Materials Bank (2022) and Antibiotics Materials Bank (2023).
As of 2024, the MBB holds 23,221 marine biological source materials and has provided 7,794 source materials through 1,351 distribution cases over the past six years (2018–2023).
The MBB has established separate facilities and equipment infrastructure to ensure the stable preservation of materials. It also strives to enhance its external credibility by strengthening quality management capabilities and maintaining the international quality management system certification (ISO 9001:2015).
In addition, through collaborative research with companies and marine bio expos, the MBB supports the creation of marine bio research and industrialization outcomes by fostering efficient collaboration and communication among stakeholders in the marine bio field.
