The KCB utilizes advanced facilities and automated equipment, as well as computer servers and programs, to collect, store, distribute, manage quality, and analyze new drug compound materials and data, ensuring fast and accurate distribution.
Established in 2000, the KCB is a core infrastructure for new drug development and biotechnology research, jointly utilizing domestic compound resources and related information. In 2008, it was designated as the compound research outcome management and distribution agency for national research and development projects by the Ministry of Science and ICT. KCB performs the role of the central bank for synthetic compound clusters and was designated as a bio-resource deposit and preservation agency in 2022.
Located within the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, the KCB operates large-scale freezers for compound storage, AutoStorage equipment for storing and selecting DMSO solutions for distribution, liquid handler for automatic dispensing, and advanced facilities for quality control and analysis. The institute also employs computer servers and programs for fast and accurate compound and data distribution.
The KCB holds over 750,000 types of new drug compound materials (as of 2024) and has provided more than 11.2 million compounds for approximately 1,300 projects across academia, industry, and research over the past 20 years, securing more than 8.8 million compound utilization efficacy data entries.
In 2020, the KCB integrated its physical and information management databases with international public databases into a unified data platform. This platform provides compound search services without login, and after logging in through the NTIS, it offers compound selection and management based on user needs, automated virtual screening, and support for deposit and distribution.
